TYUST 2024 International Student Enrollment Guide


Taiyuan University of Science and Technology (TYUST), founded in 1952 and located in the city of Taiyuan, the provincial capital of Shanxi, is Chinas first heavy-machinery institute offering undergraduate programs, renowned today as a multi-disciplinary university with distinctive educational features, and serving as one of the nations major incubators of specialists and sci-tech researches in the field of major technological equipment.

Currently, TYUST has 2 post-doctoral mobile stations (for mechanical engineering, and materials science and engineering), 3 doctoral degree programs, 18 masters degree programs, supporting a teaching-research university with a multi-level education system consisting of undergraduate, master and doctoral students.

With the persistence in an open mindset, TYUST is an active participant in international exchange and cooperation, building up friendly bonds with many renowned foreign universities, and offering international training programs and programs of exchanges of visiting scholars. As a continuity of this tradition, TYUST extends welcoming hands to international students, in its endeavor to deepen theBelt and Roadinitiative, and to comprehensively promote the friendly exchanges with countries along the route, the training of international talents, and the collaborative innovation of science and technology.


I. Applicants Qualification

1. Applicants shall be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport.

Applicants, who have foreign nationality at birth but do not have Chinese nationality because  one or both parents are Chinese citizens and reside in a foreign country, shall hold a valid foreign passport. Apart from the specific requirements of TYUST, the applicants must also have resided in a foreign country for more than 2 years in the recent 4 years (before April 30 of the year of admission) and the actual residing in a foreign country for more than 9 months in a year can be counted as one year, subject to the entry and exit signature.


2. Applicants shall be in good health.

The health condition of applicants shall meet the medical standards as stated both in the Exit and Entry Administration Law of the Peoples Republic of China and in other regulations of Chinese government and TYUST. Applicants shall not be eligible who contract serious mental disorders, tuberculosis, and other infectious diseases that may pose a threat to public health.


3. Applicants shall meet the following requirements for diploma and age.

(1) Applicants for the masters program shall have a bachelors degree, and be under the age of 35.

(2) Applicants for the doctoral program shall have a masters degree, and be under the age of 40.


4. Applicants shall meet the following requirements for language proficiency

Applicants for degree programs are required to be proficient in the Chinese or the English language so as to pass the interview for the admission, and to ensure that the proficiency shall be adequate to complete the education and daily needs in China. Besides, applicants shall master the English language well enough to meet the requirements for academic purposes.


Note:

Master's and doctoral programs are full-time education, so international students are not allowed to do the internship or work except for academic requirements by TYUST.


II. Application Deadline

May 10, 2024 (Application will not be accepted after the deadline).


III. Application Procedures

The applicants for masters or doctoral degree shall check List of Required Documents for Application (See Part IV), and mail to International Education School the required documents. E-mail and contact are listed as the following:

Note:

(1) All the application documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by the original copy and its notarized translation in Chinese or English. It is advised to have the original copy and its translation notarized at the Chinese Embassy in the applicants home country. Please stamp on the edges of all sheets with part of the impression on each sheet if the document consists of more than one page.

(2) Applicants are expected to submit a complete set of application documents and will be held accountable for their authenticity. Applications with incomplete or forged documents will be rejected.

(3) In general, there is no need to mail original hard-copy documents through courier service. However, under extraordinary circumstances, TYUST reserves the rights to require applicants to mail paper documents for further review and confirmation. No application documents will be returned, regardless of the outcome of the application.

VI. Admission and Selection

1. Verification of qualification

There will be a comprehensive review of the applicant’s foreign identity, previous diploma, academic performance, language proficiency, research plan, and recommendations, etc.

2. Interview assessment

TYUST will conduct remote video interview assessment in different batches for applicants who pass the qualification examination, focusing on their language proficiency, academic ability and comprehensive quality, etc. Applicants should refer to email for the specifics of the interview arrangement.

3. Admissions

The best applicants will be selected according to the results of the qualification examination and the interviews. The results will be emailed to the applicants. Admission letters and visa application forms for studying in China will be sent out, by courier service or email, in accordance with the governments policy on the entry and exit administration.


VII. Length of Program, Maximum Learning Period and Conferral of Degree

1. Doctoral programs: 3 years

The maximum learning period of doctoral programs is 6 years. Students, who complete the credits stipulated in the teaching plan, complete their graduation thesis and successfully pass the oral defense, meet the requirements for graduation, are granted the graduation certificate of doctoral degrees.

2. Masters programs: 3 years

The maximum learning period of masters programs is 5 years. Students, who complete the credits stipulated in the teaching plan, complete their graduation thesis and successfully pass the oral defense, meet the requirements for graduation, are granted the graduation certificate of masters degrees.



VIII. Tuition Fee & Accommodation Fee

1. Doctoral programs

Tuition Fee: 25,000 CNY/year; Accommodation Fee: 5,000 CNY/year.

2. Masters programs

Tuition Fee: 20,000 CNY/year; Accommodation Fee: 3,000 CNY/year.


Note:

The tuition fee is charged each academic year in CNY, excluding cost of course materials.


IX. Insurance

For the safety of international students in China, according to the regulations of the Chinese Ministry of Education, as well as TYUST, international students are required to purchase medical insurance for foreign students which costs 800 CNY/year. Please refer to the enrolment instructions for detailed information.


X. Scholarship

  Currently, TYUST offers two types of scholarships for international students:

1. TYUST Scholarship for International Student. This type of scholarship fully covers the tuition fee and accommodation fee. The duration of the scholarship is three years, and the international students of doctoral programs can apply for an extension of no more than one year.  

2. TYUST Scholarship for Excellent Doctoral Student, (CNY 20,000 per person, per year), and TYUST Scholarship for Excellent Master Student, (CNY 15,000 per person, per year). This scholarship will be given to international students bank accounts on a monthly basis. The duration of the scholarship is three years, and the international students of doctoral programs can apply for an extension of no more than one year.

The Scholarship Reviewing Committee for International Students will adhere to the principles of standardization, objectivity and fairness to select qualified scholarship applicants.


XI. Monitoring, Complaints and Action for Misconduct

1. TYUST’s international student recruitment is jointly conducted by International Education School and the relevant departments and host schools, and is subject to the monitoring of the TYUST Supervision Division. The Supervision Division can be reached on +86 (0)351 6998066.

2. Applicants are responsible for the truthfulness and accuracy of the information and documents they have submitted. New students’ admission qualifications will be rechecked upon their entry to TYUST. Failure to meet the admission regulations for international students or any falsification or misrepresentation will result in disqualification of enrollment in accordance with the regulations of the educational authorities and TYUST.
